Far North ICT Trust addresses digital literacy in the Far North, running Northland Connect, Stepping UP – free computer training for adults – at Kaitaia Library and Kerikeri Procter Library. impactNPO (Auckland)
impactNPO get IT volunteers (you) with a wide range of skills to come in and help local charities and not for profit organisations (NPOs) with their IT challenges.
We do this through running fun, high-energy and impact weekend Charity Hackathons events. On Friday evening, NPOs do a pitch about what they do and what their issues are, then volunteers form self-organising teams around an NPO of their choice. The teams then have a goal for the weekend to produce something useful.

Initial focus (Dec. 2017) is on older people but the hub provides the whole community with education and connectivity and a homework club for young people is planned. As an independent, member-driven organisation, we have a 27-year history with more than 200 members aged from 51 to 97 from a wide variety of backgrounds and skill levels.
Our objectives include:
- enabling people over the age of 50 to use desktop computers, laptops, cellphones, tablets, etc in an economical and relaxed manner
- providing opportunities for those already with computing experience to explore favourite specialty subjects
- encouraging experienced users to assist others in areas of their expertise
Learning is conducted by our enthusiastic tutors (mainly members) in a very relaxed and cheerful manner with a wide range of tutorial and discussion group sessions. Sessions are each 2-hours on weekdays (mornings and some afternoons). To satisfy demand some are now available on Saturdays.
